The news is horrendous, the sights heart-rending. For most of us, it's not possible to make a personal pilgrimmage to help, we can only offer our prayers and open our pocketbooks to support those on the front lines.

Of course the human toll is staggering, heartbreaking. Most of us can only begin to imagine the horror, the grief, the pure misery of those still in the midst of this immense devastation. And how terrifying as well to be among those who evacuated before the storm knowing that it's likely whatever and whomever they left behind may be lost to them forever.

In addition to those organizations working to rescue people, I've included links to several that are going all out for pets lost or stranded, separated from their human families who must be worried sick about them.
